Understanding Bylaw Part 12: Advertising and Promotional Activities

It is the responsibility of all registrants to ensure that their advertising and promotional materials are compliant with Bylaw Part 12.

For assistance in compliance, please refer to the Bylaw 12 Interpretive Guidelines. We recommend that dentists provide this document to anyone who is assisting with advertising and promotional activities of the dentist or the dental practice.

Please note that the College is unable to provide any approvals for proposed advertising by registrants or their agents.

The College is a complaints-based regulator and does not perform random searches or audits of registrants’ advertising and promotional activities. If we receive a submission that is deemed to be non-compliant with Bylaw Part 12, a complaint file will be opened.
All registrants should be familiar with the College’s expectations for practice as contained in the CDSBC Bylaws, and in policy documents such as the Standards and Guidelines. These documents are available in the College’s library at www.cdsbc.org/library.

Clarification: Requirements for Exposing Radiographs by Dental Assistants

The document A Guide to CDA Services outlines the services that can be delegated by a dentist, and those that must be authorized and supervised by a dentist. The College recently made a revision to clarify that the only restricted activity a dental assistant who is not a CDA (i.e. a non-registrant) can provide under the authorization and supervision of a dentist is the exposing of dental radiographs and only if they have completed a dental radiography module and CDSBC has provided the dental assistant with a radiography designation.
