Committees

CDSBC’s committees are established by the Board and filled by the Appointments Committee. Currently at CDSBC, we have 10 committees organized into three types: regulatory, professional standards and Board committees.

Our committees are comprised of members who reflect the importance of diversity, gender equality, professional experience, knowledge and skill.

Committee terms commence on July 1 of each year. Chairs are selected from within each committee. Click on the committee below to learn more.

In 2021, CDSBC’s Board appointed 49 individuals to serve on its committees. This includes a mix of new and returning faces: 29 are previous CDSBC committee members, six are board members who were reappointed and 14 are new members.

In 2019, we redesigned our committee structure to embrace leading regulatory practices and reflect our over-arching commitment to protecting patients and the public. The new committee structure was implemented in July 2020 as a direct result of the Action Plan CDSBC developed in response to the Cayton Report.

Role

The Discipline Committee adjudicates disciplinary matters when the investigation of a complaint identifies a serious problem, or when the complaint cannot be resolved through alternative dispute mechanisms or remediation.

Role

The Registration Committee is responsible for granting registration and certification. The committee reviews and monitors the policies, procedures and provisions for registration and certification in the best interest of the public, and decides whether to approve or deny non-routine applications for initial registration, annual renewal and reinstatement.

Working Groups

COVID-19 Response Working Group

Mandate

The COVID working group was composed of board members and other experts to assist with CDSBC’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 Working Group was struck in May 2020 for a six month term. As the initial term has now expired, the Standards and Guidance Committee will carry the work forward.

Role

The Appointments Committee determines the required knowledge, skills, expertise and diversity required on CDSBC’s committees and fills any vacancies on the Board and committees. The goal of the committee is to recommend members with the required skills, knowledge and experience to make decision-making at the College more streamlined and effective.
