Registrar/CEO Announcement from the Board of the College of Dental Surgeons of BC
Distributed 1 March 2019
On behalf of the Board of the College of Dental Surgeons of BC, I am
delighted to announce that Dr. Chris Hacker has been appointed Registrar and
CEO of the College effective March 1, 2019.
A 1981 graduate of UBC, Chris practised general dentistry in
Vancouver. In the last eight years, he has transitioned into a full-time
position at the College. His roles have included Complaint Investigator,
Policy and Practice Advisor, Deputy Registrar responsible for complaints and,
in the last 11 months, Acting Registrar. The Board is most appreciative of
the leadership and dedicated service Chris has provided as Acting Registrar.
This has been a challenging year for the College, requiring patience, the
ability to listen and learn, and a willingness to grow with the increasing
demands and complexities of health regulation. The Board also wishes to
acknowledge the dedicated and hard-working College staff, who have worked with
and supported Chris and the Board in our journey toward improving health
outcomes for the public, strengthening relationships with stakeholders,
adopting leading regulatory practices and ensuring stronger governance
practices.
I would also like to acknowledge and thank the members of the Board.
We have worked through our own challenges and are evolving into a cohesive and
effective group of public members, certified dental assistants and dentists
committed to leading the College with clear strategic goals and a commitment to
serving and protecting the people of British Columbia in the regulation of
dentistry.
The Board looks forward to working with members of the public, the Minister
and Ministry of Health, our new Registrar/CEO, the College staff, the
profession, our colleagues in health regulation and our many volunteers to
address the changes needed and the many expectations of our College in the days
ahead. We are committed to restoring trust in the College of Dental
Surgeons of BC as the College fulfils our mandate to serve and protect the
public.
